  1. Start the backup only if your server has the specified amount of free disk space (in megabytes) *

    why MB?
why is the input field so small?
    why only 5 digits?

From the comments it became clear that the reason for this feature request was that only a limited number of digits could be entered into the input field. This however has long been resolved. Technically it should be quite easy to enter MB instead of GB, too. Changing the field to GB will actually decrease flexibility, because the granularity decreases. For that reason we are closing this feature request.

  2. Return backup file name features to 12.5

I know that the backup feature was rewritten in 12.5, but it is very difficult to easily identify various server and individual site backups on a remote FTP drive now that all you see displayed in the UI is the date / time. The backup features of 12.0 that included adding a prefix to the file name and also being able to actually see the file name is sorely missed.

There are a number of reasons. The length of the paths to store backups  is limited on Windows, complication of the structure due to the  introduction of incremental backups, simplify backup representation in  UI (after increments appeared, file names do not become human readable).
Support of prefixes makes life very difficult due to these reasons, and  the rotation of backups based on prefixes in general has become a  puzzle.
So we went to a small degradation, which may be solved elementary by  user – putting backups in its own subdirectories. You can discussion  this issue on our talk.plesk.com .

  4. Add option to Resellers can to restore data from Administrator's full backup on FTP

In Plesk reseller can restore data from a full backup created by Plesk administrator. Currently, the backup created to FTP storage can be restored only by its creator.

Add option to Resellers to restore data from the Administrator's full backup stored on FTP.

We do understand that it seems desirable to being able to restore data from an admin-created backup. However, such a feature will bring about many high risks to availability, overload situations and data security including data privacy. When you enable customers to restore data from an admin-backup, it can very easily happen that several concurrent restore processes bring a server down as they all create intensive I/O load and high CPU load for data unzipping. Plus, on servers with a lot of data, the backup archives are very large and occupy a huge amount of temporary disk space upon unpacking. These also require many hours of restoration time, so queueing cannot be a suitable option either. And finally, when an admin backup is stored externally, this feature will also clog-up network bandwidth and there will be nothing an admin can do about it to ensure proper performance for all customers.

  5. Make FTP Backup more robust

Make FTP Backup more robust. I constantly get messages that either FTP Backup didn't work or that it made a full backup instead of a incremental.
Also when i open the backup list, often the FTP backups aren't shown the first time... then i need to reload the page.

It seems that there is a low timeout or something else that is wrong.
The FTP goes to a 1 gig synchronous NAS in our office and i hear the disk spinning up for a few seconds (the disks go to sleep on inactivity).

Maybe this spinup time breaks the backup…

  6. Manage folder for download dump backup

Actually, you can't manage folder destination when you download a backup from plesk interface

Add an option in plesk interface to define the folder path for :

    Full backups -> /usr/local/psa/PMM/tmp
    Domains backups -> /usr/local/psa/tmp

However when you download backup files from the Plesk Control Panel, they are copied to a temporary location as a temporary file (these parameters are not manageable) and if you have small partition genrally /dev/md1 not enought than 18 Go, you can block all plesk server

  7. Disaster Recovery Plesk _ Speed Up Backup Restoration procedure with possibility to open multiple process pleskrestore running

Allow the pleskrestore command to be run under different example accounts

    pleskrestore --restore domains1.tar -level clients [<option_N> [<param>]]
    pleskrestore --restore domains2.tar -level clients [<option_N> [<param>]]
    pleskrestore --restore domains3.tar -level clients [<option_N> [<param>]]

in order to obtain more simultaneous processes for the restore and therefore speeding up the recovery procedure of an entire server through plesk backups, in case of emergency.

It is very important to allow you to run multiple simultaneous processes, also because today's CPUs and disks are very powerful and performing, if in case of emergency recovery, 8 restore commands are launched, the recovery process is speeded up…

There are two major bottlenecks for restores: Network bandwidth for downloading the archive from an external FTP server (either on the FTP server or on the local host) and cpu power on unpacking the compressed archives. Both are already maxed in the current restore algorithms. In addition, disk I/O capabilities can limit the restore speed. Specificially uncompressing creates a high cpu load and lots of disk I/O transactions. Running several such processes concurrently could stall the server and will not necessarily increase the restoration speed. Dozens of test restores on real production machines with 12-core CPUs and backup large archives (e.g. 500 - 800 GB) have shown that it is a much better and safer approach to do one such restore at a time as two of them will already overload a machine.

For these reasons we decline this request. However, rest assured that speed is always on the agenda.…

  8. Multiply backups local rule + ftp rule

option 2 set 2 or more backup rules.

now its very time comsumming to download a backup from a FTP location if you want to restore 1 single subscription. My idea is to make 2 rules. So I can restore the backup of the previous day from local. And if I need an older backup I can download it from a FTP location.

    1) 14+ days backup retention backup to FTP backup
    2) 1 day backup retention on local server

At this point I only can setup 1, local or FTP.

This feature request has not received a lot of votes. For that reason we suggest to ask Bacula if they would like to develop an extension for Plesk to integrate their offer with Plesk. There are many other backup or storage space vendor extensions already. Also check out the Plesk Backup to Cloud Pro package that expands the backup options to many commonly used platforms.

  11. Backup-Manager: Show planned backups schedule

Short info in website specific backup manager, if there are scheduled backups planned, and if so then show the schedule. Additional a overview table in server wide backup manager with all schedule backups of each website, e.g.:
    domain | daily/weekly/monthly | weekday/date | time | next schedule date | option to edit

At the moment you can set scheduled backups and just get a short message, that is is planned, but you can't find the info anywhere anymore. So if I don't remember, I maybe set another scheduled backup and I've no idea, if the first one is reset by…

  16. Enable additional Schedule Backup with or without Full Backup

Enable additional Schedule Backup and provide an option to disable the obligation to make a Full Backup (letting user the option to create additional Incremental Backups, without messing things like repeated Full Backups). This already happends if the Admin and Client both setup Backups, it create multiple Full Backups which is not necessary since Admin Backups are create in behalf user.

Avoiding an additional full backup of a subscription when there is a full backup of the server cannot be considered reasonable for various technical and access permission reasons. It would bring about a large number of disadvantages for users, e.g. very long backup and restore times. It can also not be done for security reasons, because an administrator can and will have other security settings in place for the server backup that should not be diminished by subscription users. For the other aspects mentioned, please see the Uservoice references shown in prevous status updates. Also, regarding the very low number of votes on this feature request and that Plesk is continously improving backup functionality including more versatile options as described in previous status updates, we must decline this request.

  17. Fix bugs in Backup Manager

    • when backups fail with the message "file changed as we read it", there should be a hint to lock domain during backup
    • deleting a backup from ftp says it is successful but stays there (Management Interface and FTP)
    • when deleting a backup from an incremental chain, there should be a warning that all following backups will be removed as well (since data would be inconsistent otherwise). Or maybe use a different color or section in the deletion dialog displaying all backups going to be deleted

  19. Bakup log rotation

Plesk does not rotate backup logs and we needs to delete them by manual.
Backup log might be very big, therefore Plesk should rotate backup logs automatically to prevent oppression of disc capacity by increasing backup logs.
