Since December 2022 Plesk can be used with a centralized database server, meaning that the database server can reside on a different server or cluster. It is not necessary to operate additional nodes to use this feature, it can serve as an external database for a single Plesk installation, too. Well, for example, if you have dedicated and optimized mysql/pgsql instance on a separate machine/cluster (well administrered, with implemented security, replication and so on) this feature could be very useful (local mysql server just for Plesk configuration is an overkill and absolute waste of resources). We are a long-time and faithful user of Parallels hosting solutions, and, for example in Confixx, there was no problem with that (configuration database could be external).
